We still do plan on coming out with a toothpaste of our own, but in the meantime we found a great product that's made locally to us! Made by Redmond Trading, the same people that offer Real Salt.
- No SLS.
- No glycerin. (Glycerin is a safe ingredient, but some sources claim that glycerin coats the tooth and contributes to decay.)
- No fluoride.
- Tastes and works great, too!
Expectations: Earthpaste Natural Toothpaste is a clay-based toothpaste that does a great job of cleaning even though it doesn't lather. The paste is a natural tan color.
NOTE: For a while we stopped carrying Earthpaste Natural Toothpaste due to our concerns about its Prop 65 lead warning. However, now that Redmond has contextualized the amount of lead present in the product, as well as some of the chemistry behind lead in clay, we are confident in carrying this product again. Visit this page for more info.
Size: 4 oz tube
I make my own toothpaste, but when I am very busy I like to use this earth paste. It cleans great, love the taste, just wish it was not so expensive. So I only buy it when on sale.
I'm still on my quest for an all natural toothpaste that doesn't aggravate my sensitive teeth. I thought I was doing okay with this one, but by day 3 the old familiar sting was back just from air touching my teeth. Oh well...back to the drawing board.
Reply: Email me--I might have some suggestions for you, having dealt with tooth sensitivity myself. email@example.com
Love this toothpaste but the warning about the lead is throwing me off... Is this something to be concerned about? Especially when it comes to my kids?
REPLY: Thanks for your question! Yes, the Earthpaste does carry the Prop 65 warning for lead and we even stopped carrying the product due to our own concerns for several months. However, back in October of last year we decided to carry the product again, as the manufacturer was able to contextualize the amount of lead and made us feel safe in offering it again. I am personally concerned with heavy metals due to my own hormonal imbalances (and many metals interfere with hormone balance and function) and I use this product on a daily basis.
When we started carrying this product again we also did our own research, not just what the manufacturer gave us. You can read more about why we felt the product was safe here: http://archive.constantcontact.com/fs178/1101828272155/archive/1118807826960.html
I use the Lemon Twist flavor of Earthpaste. It works great and I like the flavor. Due to an odd condition called "geographic tongue" I need to avoid mint flavorings which are a trigger; it wasn't easy to find a natural toothpaste that meets my needs and tastes good!
I will be buying more of this. My teeth feel clean, not gritty. It has a slight minty taste, not overpowering (Peppermint).
I bought the unsweetened spearmint toothpaste. This toothpaste really does not taste bad at all; You just have to get used to the toothpaste not foaming. I believe we think toothpaste works better if it foams up. In this case though, this toothpaste cleans well and makes my teeth feel pearly all without having the chemicals that make it foam.
I hate conventional toothpastes because the flavorings literally make my tongue sting and burn. It's like using mouthwash to brush with.
I use the peppermint flavor, and it is not overpowering at all. The texture is not bubbly and fluffy and foamy like usual toothpaste, but I like that because it's not overwhelming. I find that it cleans my teeth better than anything I've used at the grocery store, and it helps prevent cavities just as well. No issues at my check ups! I will literally not brush my teeth if I don't have this stuff. That's how much I love it.
I didn't like this product at all. Maybe because I got the unsweetened version and it was just a little too...muddy. I found it pretty gross. I do like that it is so natural though so will give another flavour a try.
Here is my real review. This toothpaste makes a big difference! I noticed a changed after a week of using it. I had a few concerns from my dentist back in January (because of my pregnancy). My teeth went from 7/8s to 1s and 2s thanks to EarthPaste! I also love anything lemon. My one year old has no complaints either.
I will say that all the other reviews prepared me for the different look from conventional toothpaste, but I actually liked it. I am slightly confused though. I didn't realize the lemon twist said for kids when ordering it. I am wondering is it ok for adult to use, or it is not strong enough?
Reply: Yep! It's good for adults, too! Just a more kid-friendly flavor since sometimes mint is too intense for little ones. :)
My grandson loves this toothpaste. My granddaughter said "aaagh." I find it refreshing and very usable. I find that it tstays on my toothbrush (without falling off) better if I DON'T wet the brush first. I've used this paste for only a couple of weeks so don't know if I can evaluate it very well yet, but so far so good. The flavor is fine, and the texture is fine. I don't care if it lathers or not. (It doesn't.) I should have thought baking soda in it would have been a plus, but I guess it's okay without it too. I'm pleased that it is so truly natural. The price is a bit high, but I like the fact that the tube will stand on the cap.
